What is niacinamide? Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3. Its ability to be easily absorbed makes it a popular skincare ingredient. It cannot be dissolved in oil so it's most often found in water-based skincare products. If you're a fan of lightweight textures, niacinamide is the ingredient for you.
What does it do? Think of the skin barrier as a wall. The wall is made up of little bricks called ceramides (lipids). Niacinamides hold the ceramides together, thus strengthening the wall and preventing water loss in the process. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to reduce sebum production, this ingredient can be found in many acne products (including those in our Pyunkgang Yul collection).
How does it react with other ingredients? Niacinamide is safe to use with most ingredients and can be found in many combination serums. However, use niacinamide with acidic ingredients like AHA/BHA or Vitamin C with caution. When used in combination with Vitamin C, the benefits of both ingredients are reduced. If used in combination too often with these acidic ingredients, you could experience facial flushing.
Who should use this ingredient? Since niacinamide essentially helps the skin retain moisture by strengthening the skin barrier, all skin types can benefit from this ingredient.
