2023 Skincare Resolutions

It's again that time of year where we make bold promises to ourselves to be and do better, and then break said promises in a matter of weeks. We never learn, do we? Luckily, these skincare resolutions don't require a huge amount effort. Here is a list of 10 resolutions to start you on the path to better, healthier skin in 2023.

1. Clean out your skincare stash

Start the year fresh by looking at all the expired products you accumulated in 2022 and replace them. If you notice you're tossing a lot, make a mental note to buy less in 2023. Your bank account and the planet will thank you.

2. Swap sheet masks for wash-off

Sheet masks are a fun indulgence, but they are incredibly wasteful. The skincare industry produces an over-abundance of waste, so ask yourself if that sheet mask is really necessary or if you can reap the same skin benefits with a wash off mask. Here are some of our favorites:

3. Invest in a good SPF and apply it every morning

SPF is the #1 anti-aging product. UV ray damage doesn't just happen at the peak of summer. SPF should be worn every day, regardless the season or weather. Here are some of our bestselling sunscreens:

4. Figure out your skin concerns and focus on products that target those

Forget all the trends that your favorite skinfluencers are raving about. The skin barrier does not respond well to constant changes. Skin needs consistency. In 2023, focus on finding products that work for you and stick with them.

5. Switch from disposable to reusable make-up remover rounds

Reusable makeup remover pads can generally be washed up to 800 times before needing to be replaced. There are so many now on the market in a variety of fabrics. Check out our reusable makeup remover rounds, made of 70% bamboo and 30% cotton. We also carry LastRounds (by Danish company LastObject), which are made of 70% Scandinavian food fibers and 30% cotton fibers that are too short to be used in the textile industry.

6. Drink more water

This is a no-brainer. A hydrated body makes for hydrated skin. Hydrated skin is more elastic and less prone to fine lines and scarring.

7. Wash off your make-up every night

We're all guilty of it at one point or another. A one-off night of forgetfulness (or laziness) isn't going to set you back on your skin goals. But making not properly cleansing at night a habit can lead to bacteria growth causing breakouts, blackheads, and enlarged pores. We recommend a good oil-based cleanser if you are someone who wears makeup.

8. Stay consistent

This is a tough one because the beauty industry is very good at making us believe we need every new shiny product that comes on the market. But not only does constantly buying new skincare products give us only short-term satisfaction, it's terrible for the skin barrier. Products need a number of weeks to work, sometimes months. In 2023, focus on patience.

9. Exfoliate 1-2 times per week

Over-exfoliation is a good way to damage your skin, which in turn has to shopping for "skin repair" products. Nip the problem in the bud by keeping your exfoliation step to 1 or 2 times per week. Those with chronic dry skin should not exfoliate more than once per week.

10. Re-think "gimmick" products

Skincare fridges, jade rollers, pore cleansing tools, beauty taping... are these necessary? Spoiler alert - NO. The beauty industry is very skilled at marketing. There are so many gimmicky, scammy products out there that don't really provide any tangible benefits, but they do drain your bank account. These products might make YOU feel good, but your skin really doesn't need them.
